Trainee Setter | Nottingham | Permanent | Competitive Salary

Permanent Trainee Setter role based close to Nottingham. Full-time, onsite position offering a competitive salary with benefits. This role suits proactive, detail-oriented individuals with experience in machine setting and inspection within engineering or manufacturing environments.

This position requires both a day and night shift (in the future), please review the shifts to ensure you are comfortable before applying. 

  • Days: 0700-1530 Mon-Thurs; 0700-1230 Fri. There isn’t a regular shift pattern but there are afternoon shifts – this is roughly 2 weeks in every 6-8 weeks. Afternoon shift: 1400-2230 Mon-Thurs; 1100-1630 Fri.

  • In future, the requirement to work night shifts –  2000-0530 Mon-Wed; 2030-0530 Thurs.

What you will be doing

As a Machine Setter, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient setup and operation of automatic production machines, maintaining high standards of quality and safety. You’ll work as part of a dedicated team, supporting continuous improvement and adhering to strict safety protocols to deliver precision-engineered components reliably and efficiently.

  • Learn to set and operate production machinery.

  • Support skilled Machine Setters with daily production.

  • Carry out machine changeovers and minor adjustments.

  • Measure and inspect components to quality standards.

  • Record production data accurately.

  • Monitor machine performance and report issues.

  • Change tooling under supervision.

  • Follow health & safety and manual handling procedures.

  • Maintain high housekeeping standards (5S).

  • Attend training and develop towards a Machine Setter role.

  • Support continuous improvement activities.

  • Produce quality components to customer specifications.

What we are looking for

We are seeking a motivated individual with relevant experience in setting and inspecting machines within a precision engineering or manufacturing environment. Strong communication skills and a positive attitude are essential for success in this role. The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, able to work independently and within a team, and eager to contribute to process improvements.

  • Experience using automatic machine setting and inspection techniques, with familiarity of ERP systems like EFACS an advantage

  • Previous background in precision engineering or manufacturing required

  • Qualifications: GCSEs (A-C including Maths & English), Level 1 Maths and English, or an engineering apprenticeship

  • Good organisational skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach

  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude towards learning and team collaboration
